A person who laced candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and 10.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on late November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.
The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC said items including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepchild notified the police about his concerns.
She said the defendant proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member notified the authorities a second time.
She said Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
