Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
